For me, it's personal!

There isn’t a single person I know that hasn’t been touched by cancer. Whether it’s through a loved one, friend, family member or it’s much more personal, cancer is a terrible burden.

In 2024, I’m taking a stand against cancer and backing the brilliant brains at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, and for me, it’s personal.

In January 2021, I registered as a solo rider for the 2021 ride. My parents had both been affected by cancer as well as many other family members and friends. I was a keen cyclist and I wanted to make a difference.

Fast forward to October 2021 when I completed the ride – I had since lost both my parents to cancer, my Mum in February to metastatic breast cancer and my Dad to lymphoma only 3 weeks before the ride.

The Perkins WA researchers are committed to finding answers faster and developing ground-breaking treatments for the hardest to treat cancers. In 2023, 1500 riders participated raising $8.8million. I have personally raised over $30,000. The best part, this money stays in WA.

I’m training, fundraising, and riding 200km to support WA cancer research. But this year, I’m not doing it alone, I have convinced those closest to me to ride with me. We have a growing team (mainly of Karratha locals) and we are committed to raising as much as possible to keep families together. Because no one should have to hear those two life-altering words, “It’s cancer.”
