Gear-shift Against Cancer

I'm not a cyclist by any stretch. I bought a fixie in 2010 when everyone else was doing it; back when lumberjacks were cool, we were all growing beards, listening to folk rock and using Instagram mainly for the filters.

Cycling lingered in the background ever since, rearing its helmet every so often, but it never really took hold either.

In a similar fashion, I signed up for a marathon early this year, despite my longest run being 10km. Finishing in 4:30:00 left me with a mix of happiness, dissatisfaction, and excitement for the work ahead.

All of this sounds trivial, almost silly, in contrast to the daily realities of cancer, as my colleague and countless others are experiencing right now. The crew at Holman are getting around her during the toughest of times, part of that being this Cancer 200.

They've been hard at work, chipping away at me and exposing my FOMO, which had me signing up for the ride and promptly scanning Gumtree for a secondhand road bike.

I'm pumped to see what we can achieve. The money we raise goes to the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and the ground-breaking treatments they're working on. Cancer is relentless, so we need to be the same.

Any level of support would be greatly appreciated, and will no doubt provide the mental boost I need to drag myself over the finish.
