Riding 200km for Perkins: Why This Ride Matters

There are some challenges you take on for fitness, some for personal growth, and some for a cause far bigger than yourself. Riding 200 kilometres to raise funds for Perkins Cancer is one of those challenges.

This ride is about more than distance. It is about hope, resilience, and standing behind the life-changing cancer research that gives people and families a better chance at the future.

Why I’m Riding

Cancer affects nearly everyone in some way. Whether it is a family member, a friend, a colleague or someone in our wider community, most of us know the impact it can have. The emotional, physical and financial toll is enormous, and the need for better treatments, earlier detection and more effective care has never been greater.

That is why I am taking part in the Perkins Cancer 200km ride.

The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is doing critical work to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer. The funds raised through this ride help support research that can lead to breakthroughs in diagnosis, treatment and survival. Every dollar raised contributes to work that has the potential to save lives.

The Challenge

Riding 200 kilometres is no small task. It takes preparation, consistency and determination. There are early mornings, long training rides, sore legs and moments when motivation is tested.

But every time the ride feels tough, I remind myself why I’m doing it.

For the people currently in treatment.
For the families waiting on good news.
For those we have lost.
And for the researchers working tirelessly to change what a cancer diagnosis means.

Compared with what many people go through in their cancer journey, a long day in the saddle is a challenge worth taking on.

Why Fundraising Matters

Research does not happen without support. It takes funding, resources and a community willing to get behind an important cause.

That is why this ride is not just about crossing the finish line — it is about raising as much as possible along the way.

Every donation, large or small, helps back world-class cancer research. It helps provide scientists and medical teams with the tools they need to keep pushing for better outcomes. It also sends a strong message that our community cares, and that together we can make a real difference.

How You Can Help

If you would like to support my ride, I would be incredibly grateful for your donation. Your contribution will go towards vital cancer research through Perkins and help fund the work being done to improve and save lives.

If donating is not possible, sharing this message is another powerful way to help. The more people who hear about the ride and the cause behind it, the greater the impact we can make.

Riding for Something Bigger

There is something powerful about taking on a physical challenge in support of a meaningful cause. Every kilometre becomes a reminder that progress is made one step, one effort and one contribution at a time.

This 200km ride is a personal challenge, but more importantly, it is a chance to be part of something bigger — a community rallying around research, hope and better outcomes for people affected by cancer.

Thank you to everyone who supports this journey, whether through a donation, encouragement or simply helping spread the word. It all matters.

Together, we can help turn kilometres into impact.

Thank you for supporting Perkins Cancer research.

I’m on a mission to defeat cancer.

Cancer doesn’t just affect one person, it shakes up families, friends and communities. This year, I will be taking a stand against it.

In October 2026, I’m joining a community of passionate riders to cycle 200km to raise vital funds for cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Every dollar pushes us closer to breakthroughs at the Perkins where brilliant researchers work tirelessly to find life-saving answers for some of the toughest cancers. But they also need our help to ensure their vital progress continues– no matter what.

100% of the funds we raise will go back to the Perkins giving cancer researchers the support to continue their life-saving work so that our loved ones can live longer, healthier lives.

The Ride is more than just a test of endurance—it’s about unity. I'll ride alongside an incredible group of people who believe, as I do, that cancer can be conquered. Your support can turn this belief into reality.

I can’t do this alone. Will you help me to reach this goal?

Whether you join me on the Ride or support my fundraising, your generosity could be the key to saving our loved ones from this disease.

Together, we can beat cancer!
