I'M ON A MISSION TO DEFEAT CANCER!
It was a few days after our wedding when I found the lump in my breast, putting it down to my cycle and not putting too much thought to it. Until a month later when it was still there and had grown in size, that I took a visit to the GP. An ultrasound and mammogram turned into a "yes we will see you next week for a biopsy". Next week came and a fine needle biopsy turned into a core biopsy. Those two moments was when I grew suspicious. So when our GP told us "I'm sorry you have breast cancer", I felt like it I knew it already. My mind went straight to our kids "but they're so little" and trying to comprehend what it could mean for them. What it could mean for our happy little family. For my husband, Aaron, it was pure shock and I can only imagine how he felt in that moment. That was two days after Christmas and three months after our wedding when we heard the diagnosis. I mean what a way to start our new year and what a way to start married life. Full of unknowns.
4 months into treatment and what a marathon it has been but I feel like I am one of the lucky ones. Pathology showed it was contained to my breast and chemo is "just an insurance policy".
Cancer has taken a lot from me and my family with my angel aunty lucy who had also been diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age and left us way too soon. My aunty showed so much strength and resilience that I can only hope I have done her proud.
Cancer is relentless and I want to put a stop to cancer by joining over 1000 riders to take on a 2 day, 200km bike ride to raise vital funds for cancer research right here in WA at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. The funds I raise will go to the brilliant minds at the Perkins who are committed to finding breakthroughs that will lead to improved health outcomes for those affected by the disease. Hearing the words “it’s cancer” is heart-wrenching. But with Perkins researchers, I am determined to eliminate the fear and uncertainty that cancer brings.
On Saturday 12th October and Sunday 13th October 2024, Aaron and I will pedal alongside fellow riders who share the dream of finding a cure for cancer and your support would mean the world. 100% of what we raise will go straight to the Perkins. So join us in making a difference! Whether you join us on the Ride or contribute to our fundraising pages, your generous support matters. Together, we can conquer cancer.
I dedicate my ride to the cancer thrivers & survivors, the cancer angels and their families and friends who get affected too.
Please give generously to our donation pages as we take on the MACA Cancer 200 - Ride for Research.
