Second 10km Ride on my sister's Bike

Adjusted the seat on her bike higher using the LeMond Method.  The first ride I did earlier today was done with the seat too low (about 4-5cm shorter), so I felt like I had to pedal very hard most of that ride.  This ride certainly feels much nicer and more comfortable. :)

This is a late evening bike ride, and it is nice to see the roos are out in the local park on this ride. :)

First 10km Ride on my sister's Bike

Took my sister's road bike out for the first time to do a short 10km ride just to have a feel of whether it is feasible to do the cancer ride on her XS frame bike.  I believe I need either a S or M bike frame.

Please help me, help the Perkins.

Team Z

Year 2020 has been a very tough year for me and our family.

This is the year my younger sister, Tze Ling (affectionately known as "Z" to many of her friends), was diagnosed with CUP (Cancer of Unknown Primary) in Feb 2020.  Although her battle with cancer was short , she never gave up, and she fought it to the very end. When she left us in Oct 2020, she was only 45 and way too young to leave us.

When I lost mum to pancreatic cancer in 2012, it was the most devastating event to happen in my life.  Up till last year, I didn't think I would experience that level of grief so soon.  Although I am very thankful I can spend the last few months with my sister in her home and at SJOG Subiaco, this period was also the most difficult period in my life emotionally.  I lived each day fearing it could be her last, and I remembered thanking God every day that she was still with us.

My sister taught me many things during this time.  She kept her joy and her faith in God.  She even took time to bring comfort and encouragement to a new friend who was diagnosed with cancer, and needed another cancer sufferer to offer her much needed encouragement.  She faced her imminent death with the level of courage I certainly would not be able to muster if I was in her shoes. Most of all, she taught me every little acts of kindness matters, no matter how small it seems, and that it will impact life in a way you can never imagine possible.  She is able to do these things, because of her genuine love for people around her.

So this year, I am going to do this ride in honor of my beloved sister, in remembrance of her and her love for others.

I also want to take this opportunity to remember my mum, who work tirelessly and selflessly her whole life for us.  She was only 63 when she left us in 2012.

Last but not least, this ride is also dedicated to a friend (Alex Chen Zhao Cheng 陈昭呈) who was only 36 when he succumbed to liver cancer in 2014.  He was survived by his wife and 4 young children. His widow, Feng Kiew, has been a pillar of strength to my sister during my sister's fight with cancer.  In the last 2 weeks of my sister's stay at the hospital, she was coming into the hospital early in the morning (often before 7am), so I can get a few hours of sleep. I have never really thanked her in public, and I just want to take this opportunity to thank her for her love to my sister.  This ride is also for her husband, whom we will not forget.

Please donate generously to support me to complete this ride.

Its Personal! I'm challenging myself for cancer research

Everyone has been touched by cancer sometime in their lives. Whether the diagnosis is a loved one, family member or it’s much, much more personal, cancer is a terrible burden.

This October, I am riding 200km on my bike to raise funds for cancer research right here in WA at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

I am training and fundraising in the lead up to the event. I'd love your support. If you can't join me (I'd love the company), please give generously to my donation page.

Please help me, help the Perkins.
