A Clear Scan and a Reason to Keep Riding.
A Clear Scan. And a Reason to Keep Riding.
29 days to go.
When I first signed up for this challenge, I was deep in Chemotherapy and surgeries to and whilst trying to remain completely optimistic, I was quite unsure if riding 200km would actually be achievable!
Today, I have something pretty special to share.
I have had my first clear scan.
After everything that has happened since October last year, seeing those words was something I will never take for granted.
And it has made me think even more about why I am doing this ride.
On October 17, 2025, my life changed in an instant.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer with liver metastasis. One moment I was living my normal life – working full time, being “Supermum”, running a household, supporting friends and priding myself on being fiercely independent – and the next, everything was turned upside down for our wee family.
I went from planning tomorrow to questioning what tomorrow might even look like.
Since then, I have undergone major surgery, losing one-third of my bowel and one-third of my liver, a few minor surgeries and gone through 12 rounds of chemotherapy.
It has been confronting, humbling and incredibly challenging. But it has also shown me something I already knew, but now understand on a completely different level:
Medical research matters.
The treatment options I have had, the knowledge of the doctors and oncologists looking after me, the skills of my surgeons and the ongoing research into cancer all exist because people have spent years asking questions, finding answers and pushing medicine forward.
My clear scan is not something I take for granted.
It is a reason to be grateful.
And it is a reason to keep riding.
On October 17, 2026 – exactly one year since my diagnosis – I will ride 200km in the MACA Cancer 200 to raise funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
I am riding because research has given me options.
I am riding because I want the next person diagnosed with cancer to have even more options.
I am riding for my family, for the people I have met along the way, and for the researchers who keep working towards better treatments and better outcomes.
And now, with just 29 days to go, the training really has to step up!
The start has been slow. There have been plenty of days when getting out on the road has been a challenge, and some hills have definitely required a bit of walking. But I am getting there.
From here, it is about putting the kilometres in – whether that is out on the road or on the spin bike in the garage.
One hill at a time.
I have already reached my fundraising target, which I am incredibly grateful for. But there is still time to raise more.
Every donation, big or small, helps support cancer research and the people working towards the breakthroughs that can change lives.
I know everyone gets asked to donate to something these days, so I never take anyone's support for granted.
But if you have a few dollars to spare, I would love you to be part of this final push.
My clear scan has given me another reason to keep going.
Now I want to help give someone else a reason to hope for theirs.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, encouraged, ridden, messaged and cheered me on so far.
It genuinely means more than you know.
2 days. 200km. One very personal reason to ride.
It's Personal - I’m on a mission to defeat cancer.
With 82 Days to go till the big ride, Chemo and Surgeries all behind me for now - My training has gotten off to a slow start - but a start - updating my blog to keep myself accountable!
From here on out its training most days - whether that's out on the road or on the Spin bike in the garage - it is time to put the KM's in!
Last October 17, 2025, my life changed in an instant.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer with liver metastasis. One moment I was living my normal life - working full time, being “Supermum,” running a household, supporting friends, and priding myself on being fiercely independent - and the next, everything was turned upside down for our wee family.
It wasn’t just a diagnosis - it was a moment that made me question everything. I went from planning tomorrow to questioning what tomorrow might even look like.
Suddenly, control was taken out of my hands. I had to put my trust in my medical team and let go. Since then, I have undergone major surgery, losing one-third of my bowel and one-third of my liver, and I am currently in my second round of chemotherapy.
It’s been confronting, humbling, and incredibly challenging for me and my loved ones, but it has also shown me the power of medical research, skilled surgeons, and dedicated oncologists who are not just treating me, but striving for a cure.
That’s why this ride means so much to me.
On October 17 2026, exactly 1 year since my diagnosis, I will be riding 200km in the MACA Cancer 200 to raise vital funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. The research they do isn’t abstract to me—it’s personal. It’s the reason I have options, hope, and a team pushing boundaries for people like me.
Cancer doesn’t just affect one person—it impacts families, friends, and entire communities. I’m riding for my family, for others facing this diagnosis, and for a future where stories like mine have better outcomes.
100% of the funds raised go directly to supporting life-saving cancer research, helping brilliant minds continue their work toward breakthroughs that give people more time, more hope, and better lives.
This ride is more than just a physical challenge - it’s about unity, resilience, and belief that we can change the future of cancer.
I can’t do this alone. If you’re able to support me - whether by donating or cheering me on - you are helping make a real difference.
Thank you for being part of my journey.
