I’M RIDING IN HONOUR OF My Friend
Please help me raise funds and support my cause.
Empowered to make change
Hey friends and lovers.Â
I’m 46 years old this year, I’ve been on this planet long enough to learn and understand quite a few words in the English language.Â
There’s this one word though, I thought I understood it, and up until recently I could have given you a simple dictionary definition of it.Â
You might have had it said to you down a phone line, or read it in message from a near and dear. Unfortunately, chances are you know of somebody who has had a doctor tell it to them in a small white room.Â
Incurable.Â
I recently read it in a text message, but I couldn’t comprehend it. It couldn’t mean what I thought it meant. Not in the context I heard it. Surely not? To a good person? To a good family?Â
Incurable all of a sudden just couldn’t penetrate to the part of my brain where the cogs spin…
The saddest thing about the word incurable though, is that it doesn’t matter if you understand it, believe it, or deny it, it doesn’t change the meaning of the word.Â
A crazy hard part, is when it does make sense again. For me, when I said it to one my of my children, it hit me with a clarity that broke things and stopped the cogs from spinning… the only saving grace, is I think luckily, the kid couldn’t comprehend it straight away either.Â
I’ve ridden the cancer ride for a few years running now. Always for someone, and I’m always touched by the stories that are told at the dinner table on the night we stay over. Every year, golf ball in the throat, and at minimum, glassy eyes.Â
That word incurable is said with less frequency because of the research largely funded by the ride, and the people who donate and support it.Â
We don’t want to hear that word anymore.Â
We understand words like treatment, fight, and love. You have the power to help, so that less people hear that incomprehensible word incurable, and let them instead hear words like treatment, fight and love.Â
Hope will help, research will affect change.Â
I’ll ride. You donate.Â
I appreciate you!Â
I’m on a mission to defeat cancer.
Cancer doesn’t just affect one person, it shakes up families, friends and communities. This year, I will be taking a stand against it.Â
In October 2026, I’m joining a community of passionate riders to cycle 200km to raise vital funds for cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
Every dollar pushes us closer to breakthroughs at the Perkins where brilliant researchers work tirelessly to find life-saving answers for some of the toughest cancers. But they also need our help to ensure their vital progress continues– no matter what.
100% of the funds we raise will go back to the Perkins giving cancer researchers the support to continue their life-saving work so that our loved ones can live longer, healthier lives.
The Ride is more than just a test of endurance—it’s about unity. I'll ride alongside an incredible group of people who believe, as I do, that cancer can be conquered. Your support can turn this belief into reality.
I can’t do this alone. Will you help me to reach this goal?
Whether you join me on the Ride or support my fundraising, your generosity could be the key to saving our loved ones from this disease.
Together, we can beat cancer!
