I’M RIDING IN HONOUR OF My Wife, Megan
Cancer touched my family a few years ago when my dad underwent chemo for multiple myeloma, and this year it appeared again but this time for my wife who was diagnosed with Stage 2 HER+ breast cancer in November.
I’m on a mission to defeat cancer.
THE BIG C - Cancer.
At the start of last years MACA ride when the question was asked of the 1600 riders on the start line "who here knows someone who has had, or has cancer?", every put their hand in the air. Everyone knows someone. For me I had my hand in the air as my father went through treatment for multiple Myeloma in 2021. Little did I know that this year my hand will be in the air again for double the reason.
My wife Megan (who rode last year too) felt a lump in her left breast the week of last years ride, and thankfully went and got it checked out. What has followed was a cancer diagnosis (HER2+ stage 2), shock, 16 rounds of chemo and soon she will undergo surgery. She is an amazing, strong woman who has faced it all head on, but chemo is rough and it hasn't been an easy road.
I am amazed at the science behind her treatment plan, and so thankful for all the people both front of house and behind the scenes that make treatment happen. A big shoutout to the staff of St John of God in Subiaco, and especially the legends in the Bendatt centre and the Ivy Suites.
On Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 October 2026, I’m joining a community of passionate riders to cycle 200km to raise vital funds for cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. The Perkins institute as been instrumental in treatment breakthroughs, and every dollar raised makes a difference!
100% of the funds we raise will go back to the Perkins giving cancer researchers the support to continue their life-saving work so that our loved ones can live longer, healthier lives.
The Ride is more than just a test of endurance—it’s about unity. I'll be riding alongside an incredible group of people from team Genesis who are all onboard to smash cancer. Your support can turn this belief into reality.
Whether you join me on the Ride (please jump onboard the team if you want to!) or support my fundraising, your generosity could be the key to saving our loved ones from this disease.
Together, we can beat cancer!
