I’M RIDING IN HONOUR OF My Friend, Jeffrey Parvin

I am 67 years of age and at 53 had my own journey with Thyroid cancer. My life has been touched by the Big C, a disease that comes in so many variants. My mother, father-in-law, great niece, brother-in-law, brother, friends and this Christmas, my long time friend, Jeffrey Parvin lost his three year fight. Every time I am on my bike I think of Jeff and his battle. How strong and good humoured he was through out. I still listen for the bicycle bells each morning- a tradition now as his mates cycle past my home. I’m pretty nervous! But, I will ride with Jeff in my heart and mind, and know that his strength will see me through the 200km.

5 Weeks to go!

I’ve just completed my first solo ride to Buffalo Beach! 
Ticked off 44km and my fastest 40km to date.
The calendar has turned over and I celebrated a birthday on the weekend.
If you had told me this time last year that at 68 I would be a participant and not support crew for my daughter and brother,  I would have laughed. 
I’ve come a long way and honoured to be riding in memory of my mate, Jeff and all the people that have lost a loved one  or who are battling Cancer. 

Training ride with Coach. Ticking goals!

Well here we are, 3 months out from the ride, and according to Coach JJ, following today’s Bunbury/Leschenault cycle, I’m going well.

Incredible that I am loving my rides so much. If anyone had said to me this time last year that I could ride 43km and still feel good, I would have laughed.  Noting that I have not ridden since I was 13 and somewhat allergic to bicycles. So soon to be 68, ticking all the riding goals I set for myself and surpassed my fundraising target. 

There has been some impressive bruising following three fairly significant fall offs but not broken anything and learned a lesson each time I’ve taken a tumble.

Getting out in winter is more difficult but the wind trainer has been great for the inbetween days.

So a few more weeks and I will be ride ready.

I am so grateful for my incredible support hubby. It wouldn’t be happening without him!  Thank you Mikey ❤️

I am so proud to be a team member of the Tyred and Forked crew, and honoured to be riding along side my daughter, and brother. What an amazing bunch of humans! If you see me out and about.. give me a shout of encouragement.. better still donate! Nellie 

I’m on a mission to defeat cancer.

For the past three years my husband and I have been support crew for our daughter. 

Paige, and my brother, John, ride in memory of his granddaughter, Emma. 

The hundreds of MACA riders each with their own reasons for riding are an inspiration, and after the 2025 October ride, I thought.. I want to be a part of this in a bigger way.. a part of this community.. SO, I dusted off my bike and have been cycling for 4 months and here I am signing up for my first ride.
