200 Kilometres for a Cause: Riding to Beat Cancer
Imagine getting on a bike and knowing that every kilometre you ride is helping support the fight against cancer. That is exactly what the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins is all about.
On 17–18 October 2026, riders from across Western Australia will come together for a huge 200-kilometre cycling challenge to raise money for cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. This year is especially significant as the event celebrates its 15th anniversary.
The Cancer 200 is much more than a bike ride. It is a challenge that brings people together for a cause that has affected so many families and communities. Riders take on the physical challenge of cycling 200 kilometres over two days, but the reason behind every kilometre is what makes the event so meaningful.
The money raised through the ride helps support cancer research at the Perkins. This research is important because scientists are working towards better treatments and outcomes for people living with cancer. Since the event began, the WA community has raised millions of dollars to help fund research and support new discoveries.
One of the most powerful parts of the Cancer 200 is that it is not a race. People of different abilities and fitness levels can take part, and the focus is on completing the challenge together. The Perkins describes the ride as an emotional and personal experience where people can begin as strangers and finish as a community.
The ride also gives people the opportunity to honour family members, friends and loved ones who have been affected by cancer. For some riders, the 200 kilometres may represent someone they are riding for, while for others it may be a way of supporting the researchers working towards a future where cancer has less of an impact on families.
The impact of the Cancer 200 can already be seen through the support it has provided to cancer research. In 2025, 1,675 riders across 331 teams cycled more than 345,000 kilometres and raised approximately $8.46 million.
That is what makes this event so inspiring. One person riding a bike may not seem like it could make a huge difference, but thousands of people working together can create something much bigger than themselves.
The 200 kilometres may be challenging, but the purpose behind them is simple: to support research, create hope and work towards a future where cancer is no longer taking so many lives.
This October, hundreds of riders will get on their bikes with one shared goal — to ride for the people they love and to help beat cancer.
Because every kilometre counts.
I’m on a mission to defeat cancer.
Cancer doesn’t just affect one person, it shakes up families, friends and communities. This year, I will be taking a stand against it.Â
In October 2026, I’m joining a community of passionate riders to cycle 200km to raise vital funds for cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
Every dollar pushes us closer to breakthroughs at the Perkins where brilliant researchers work tirelessly to find life-saving answers for some of the toughest cancers. But they also need our help to ensure their vital progress continues– no matter what.
100% of the funds we raise will go back to the Perkins giving cancer researchers the support to continue their life-saving work so that our loved ones can live longer, healthier lives.
The Ride is more than just a test of endurance—it’s about unity. I'll ride alongside an incredible group of people who believe, as I do, that cancer can be conquered. Your support can turn this belief into reality.
I can’t do this alone. Will you help me to reach this goal?
Whether you join me on the Ride or support my fundraising, your generosity could be the key to saving our loved ones from this disease.
Together, we can beat cancer!
