Why I’m Riding the Macca 200km

Cancer has taken too many people from my life. Uncles, aunts, grandparents and close friends who were all gone far too soon. It touches every family, including mine.

My wife knows this fight firsthand. She carries the scars of her melanoma journey with courage and continues to raise funds and awareness for this and other causes. Watching her strength is what inspired me to take on the Macca 200km.

Soon after signing up, I ruptured my Achilles and had surgery on 27 November 2025. I now have less than a year to recover, rebuild and get myself ready for a 200 km ride. I am committed to doing exactly that.

But my challenge is simple compared to what so many others face. I have certainty. I know I will recover. I know my rehab has a clear end point. That makes my fight easy.

Many people living with cancer, or other life changing conditions, do not have that guarantee. They face uncertainty every day, yet still choose to fight with courage and determination. Their resilience is what motivates me.

This ride is for them. It is for the people we have lost, the ones still fighting and the families who carry the load.

I will put in the work. I will ride the kilometres. And I will honour every person facing a battle without the certainty I am fortunate to have.
